First off, "Saving Ryan's Privates" is nowhere near as fine a film as "Pulp Friction" is.

Secondly, while it is terrifying that a major network would do something like this, we need to put it in context. There may be a call for a return to traditional family values in certain landlocked areas of the USA, but that doesn't make it a serious trend. Look at all the sleaze and reality television that airs on major networks every night. Do you really think that a conservative agenda is being pushed here? Please.

It's good business, plain and simple--nothing will ever change. The owners of all the major networks were bush campaign contributors, and they like things just the way they are. More suggestive reality tv which appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Showing an edited version of "saving private ryan" isn't indicative of a new orwellian trend, but it is pure hypocracy, and that's what really bothers me. We don't let people see a great war movie which could help many people understand the sacrifices that generation made. Why not? Because it contains a few arbitrarily classified bad words not suitable for televeision and some violence. But we do allow networks to bombard us with shows depicting wife swapping and people eating insects for money? Something is really wrong here...
