While I don't want to become like the not to be mentioned evangelist we used to have around here, I have to point out to Darth that Christ's sacrifice doesn't absolve all sins. It is merely an act to cleanse mankind from the wrongdoings of past generations. I'm not sure but I recall that in Jewish tradition the sins of the father were inherited by his sons, leading back to the original sin. So Jesus died to free us from the sins of our fathers. In that context, when a child (or infant or adolescent, depends on the persuasion) gets baptised, it is cleansed of the sins of the past and starts its spiritual life free of any burden, free to commit its own sins and fight its own battles.

Now, if you are not baptised, well you ain't going to hell for that. But I agree with the shark.
