It's important because this structure directly influences the way you're going to live.
For myself I would prefer a democracy that isn't based on human rights over a dictatorship that is based on human rights.
Why? In the democracy I still have some (small) influence that can be used to move things in a certain direction. In the dictatorship I don't have that influence.

I think a democracy without inherent values isn't worthless. The worth is not in the democracy itself but in the moral opinions of each member of this democratic community. And democracy guarantees that each opinion can be heared...
